{"id":3762,"date":"2017-05-10T00:24:51","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T05:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ncgenweb-data.com\/histnews\/?p=3762"},"modified":"2017-05-10T00:24:51","modified_gmt":"2017-05-10T05:24:51","slug":"miles-elliott-becomes-assistant-postmaster-1890","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncgenweb-data.com\/histnews\/miles-elliott-becomes-assistant-postmaster-1890\/","title":{"rendered":"Miles Elliott Becomes Assistant Postmaster (1890)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>A Change <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; <strong>Mr. Miles ELLIOTT<\/strong>, of Edenton, has accepted the position of assistant postmaster at this place, vice <strong>Mr. Clarence LATHAM<\/strong>, resigned. \u00a0We hope the Republican will now be satisfied, that is, the few who have been trying to get Mr. LATHAM out. \u00a0The only charge that could be brought against Mr. LATHAM was that he is a Democrat. \u00a0The majority of the Republicans were satisfied with Mr. LATHAM, for they appreciated his ability to run the office, but as will always be the case, there were a few who kicked hence the change. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Mr. ELLIOTT, being a Republican, may give that party some satisfaction, but if his ability should fail, then what? \u00a0Why we will see a clean sweep made, and the office go, perhaps into the hands of a negro. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Some people say the office has not been run right, well, maybe it has not, but is Mr. LATHAM to blame?
