James S. KNIGHT<\/strong>, a young and popular freight engineer on the W. &amp; W. Railroad, died at his residence in this city, on Third street, yesterday afternoon, at 3 o&#8217;clock. <strong>Capt. KNIGHT<\/strong> had been ill for about two weeks past with pneumonia, but until the last few days, it was not thought that he was seriously ill. <strong>Captain KNIGHT<\/strong> is a son of the Master of Transportation of the W. &amp; W., and W.C. &amp; A. railroads &#8212; <strong>Captain James KNIGHT.<\/strong> He was cut off in the very prime of his manhood, being about thirty years of age at the time of his death. He was a great favorite with all, and his fellow engineers showed the grief they felt by their very looks, as they whispered among themselves, &#8220;<strong>Jimmie KNIGHT<\/strong> is dead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We learn that the funeral will take place this evening, from St. John&#8217;s church &#8211; Wilmington Star, January 30th<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div>Source: Roanoke News, 6 February 1879, page 3.
