PIERCY vs. Festus SHERROD &amp; Dan\u2019l BUXTON<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The two colored boys who were arrested on Thursday last for breaking into the residence of <strong>Mr. J.E. DAVENPORT<\/strong> were taken before <strong>Justice ARMISTEAD<\/strong> at 9 o\u2019clock Thursday night for trial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. S.B. SPRUILL<\/strong> appeared for <strong>BUXTON, SHERROD<\/strong> had no counsel. \u00a0After several witnesses were examined, the court could not find sufficient evidence against <strong>BUXTON<\/strong> to convict, so he, <strong>BUXTON<\/strong>, was discharged. \u00a0<strong>SHERROD<\/strong> was taken to jail to await the next term of the Superior Court.<\/p>\n<p>From the evidence it seems that<strong> SHERROD<\/strong> entered the house and on coming out saw <strong>BUXTON<\/strong> watching, and invited him to take part in the bigtime, he, <strong>SHERROD,<\/strong> was going to have on the money, giving <strong>BUXTON<\/strong> six dollars to start with. \u00a0The pair went to a store and purchased shoes, dry goods, &amp;c. \u00a0and seemed to be having a good time, when Mr. PIERCY came upon the scene. \u00a0The amount of money taken was between thirty-five and forty dollars, the amount recovered after the arrest was about ten dollars, including the goods which they had purchased.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Source: Roanoke Beacon, 25\u00a0July\u00a01890, pg 3.\u00a0<em>Available online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalnc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">digitalnc.org<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>J.W.
