OATES<\/strong> for the Senate and <strong>Ed T. BOYKIN<\/strong> and <strong>J.D.O. CULBREATH<\/strong> for the House.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. OATES<\/strong> is a man of great popularity in his county, and of unsurpassed electioneering qualities. \u00a0He has been sheriff of the county, and was once elected to the Senate, but was not allowed to take his seat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed T. BOYKIN<\/strong> is now twenty-five years of age. \u00a0He graduated at Trinity in 1874; read law with Smith &amp; Strong of Raleigh, and obtained his license in 1876, when he commenced the practice of law in Clinton; was twice elected mayor of Clinton, and at the time of his nomination (by acclamation) was chairman of the county Democratic committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. CULBREATH<\/strong> has not been in public life before. \u00a0He is a farmer of intelligence and excellent judgment, and is exceedingly popular in the county.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Raleigh News and Observer, 19 September 1880.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sampson county Democratic convention nominated John A.
