{"id":2258,"date":"2014-07-05T15:38:37","date_gmt":"2014-07-05T20:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ncgenweb-data.com\/histnews\/?p=2258"},"modified":"2014-07-05T15:39:13","modified_gmt":"2014-07-05T20:39:13","slug":"creswell-letter-january-21-1890","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncgenweb-data.com\/histnews\/creswell-letter-january-21-1890\/","title":{"rendered":"Creswell Letter (January 21, 1890)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following items are excerpted from the Creswell Letter column:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The monotony of our quiet village was broken on Saturday last, by some parties who seemed inclined to fight and otherwise act in a noisy and boisterous manner. \u00a0<strong>Mayor HOWELL<\/strong> promptly issued warrants for <strong>T.C. DAVIS<\/strong>, <strong>Jesse BATEMAN Jr<\/strong>., and<strong> Jack BATEMAN<\/strong>, and had them arrained <em>[sic]<\/em>, violation of our town ordinance, and fined each $1.00 and cost.<\/li>\n<li>On the 20th inst., <strong>Sheriff CHESSON<\/strong> came to our place and summoned <strong>A.G. WALKER, Johnson W. SPRUILL, A. ALEXANDER, Wm. WILEY<\/strong>, and<strong> J.L. HOWELL<\/strong>, as Jurors to lay out some public roads, or streets, in town here. \u00a0Said Jurors laid out or condemned every necessary street in the place; something that should have been done long ago as it will add much to the appearance, and convenience of our place, when all of our streets are open.<\/li>\n<li>We notice several drummers in our town during the past week, also <strong>Mr. Mathias OWENS<\/strong>, who formerly resided here, but is now in the commission business in Baltimore.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mrs. W.E. HASSELL<\/strong>, of Chowan county, is visiting our place and is the guest of<strong> Dr. HASSELL<\/strong>, whose wife is a sister of <strong>Mrs. W.E. HASSELL.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Mrs. Laura EBORNE<\/strong>, wife of <strong>Rev.
