Excerpted from the “Hyde County Items” column:
Mrs. TOOLEY, the keeper of the county alms house for over four years, retires from that place very soon. She has never been excelled by any of her predecessors and I doubt if every equalled [sic]. Commissioners, public and paupers regret her departure. She has been faithful to her trust.
