DANIELS, Joseph N. – (d. 1905)

Joseph N. DANIELS, the 11-year-old son of J.N. DANIELS, of Southport, N.C., died suddenly in the office of Dr. W.C. GALLOWAY, an oculist of Wilmington, while efforts were being made to remove a sand burr from his throat. The child’s throat was being sprayed with cocaine and this is supposed to have been what caused his death. While in the operating chair he suddenly gave a twitch and died almost instantly.

STRAT, Andy – (d. 1905)

Charlotte, Oct. 16. — Andy STRAT, the negro who was shot at the colored baptizing a week ago, died this morning at the Good Samaritan hospital of his wounds.  Julius MOORE is in a critical condition in the same hospital and four negroes are in jail charged with the shooting.

McCRAY, Laner (d. 1905)

DIED A CENTURY OLD

Newbern Journal — Laner McRAY, a colored woman died at her home in Richardson’s alley in this city a few days ago at the extreme age of one hundred years, eleven months. She was well known in the city, having been nurse for a great many people who themselves are well advanced in years and to whom they are indebted for tender, watchful care.

She had fourteen children living, the youngest of whom is Miriam HODGES, age 52. She is survived by 49 grandchildren.

BROWN, C.E. (Mrs.) – (d. 1878)

Mrs. C.E. BROWN, of Salisbury, N.C., died from injuries received from the breaking of a hack wheel. She was sixty-eight years of age.

NIXON, Lewis (d. 1878)

Lewis NIXON, colored, of Wilmington, N.C, was drowned Tuesday morning in the river.

YEARBY, L.M. (d. 1878)

L.M. YEARBY, of Raleigh, was found dead in his bed last Friday morning. He had been unwell for some time, but his death at the time was unexpected. An autopsy revealed that he died of heart disease.

ALBRITTON, Martha (Mrs.) – (d. 1835)

DIED — On the 30th ult. in Greene county, Mrs. Martha ALBRITTON, after a lingering and painful illness of four weeks, which she bore with great fortitude.
