  • Mr. S.K. EVERETT, formerly of Choinjock, has opened a store at the B.F. OWENS stand on Water street. Welcome.
  • Miss Lelia MATHIAS, who has been visiting here sister, Mrs. J.E. VINCENT, returned to her home in Gates county on Tuesday.
  • Miss Scharlotte WOOD, of Edenton, spent the week with her sister, Mrs. L.I. FAGAN, near town.

We learn that Mr. Wm. AUSLEY and Miss Mary E. PHELPS were married yesterday near here.

RAMSEY, A.H. and LAWRENCE, Annie – (m. 1889)

Our Business Manager returns thanks for an invitation to attend the marriage of Mr. A.H. RAMSEY to Mrs. Annie LAWRENCE which took place in Edenton on Wednesday, night of the 10th.

City News

  • Mr. J.F. YEAGER has accepted position with HORNTHAL & Bros. as a salesman
  • Prof. John WHALEY of Norfolk visited his father Mr. S.M. WHALEY.
  • Chief Engineer, W.W. SEARBORO was summoned home by the illness of his wife.
  • Mrs. J. B. HUNTER has been visiting her sister Mrs. J.F. NORMAN 
  • Mr. W.C. AYERS gave his patent garlic machine a test on Tuesday.
  • Miss Ella BATEMAN, daughter of J.M. BATEMAN Esq, who has been ill, returned home much improved.
  • Mr. Geo. DIXON who has been a salesman for W.C. AYERS’ store, left for Edenton where he accepted a position on the “Eastern Advocate” a new paper for that town.
  • Mr. S.M. WHALEY left to visit his family in Norfolk. He will be moving his family to Norfolk soon.

Mrs. W.A. HASSELL, wife of W.A. HASSELL, Esq., died early yesterday, the 4th.

WATERS, Bryant – (d. 1889)

Death of a Soldier of the War of 1812 – Bryant WATERS, age 97, a veteran of the war of 1812, died on Tuesday.

DAVENPORT, Deborah – (d. 1889)

Mrs. Deborah DAVENPORT, age 77, died on the 6th. Rev. L. EBORNE preached at her funeral.
