W.A. McGlamery Visits (1895)

W.A. McGLAMERY, of Clay county, was in town yesterday, and brought from Hayesville W.T. BIRD and Jacob BUCKNEY, of Buncombe county, who had been on a prospecting tour and were returning home.  Miss Cordia PENLAND came this far with them, being a relative.

W.H. Rawlston Visits (1895)

W.H. RAWLSTON, of Maryville, Tenn., spent the past week visiting his relatives, the Meroneys and Pattons, leaving for his home yesterday.

Mrs. W.S. McCombs Returns Home (1895)

Mrs. Dr. W.S. McCOMBS, after an extended visit to relatives at Blairsville, returned last Friday, accompanied by her brother, Tom BUTT.

Mrs. J.L. Smathers Returns Home (1895)

Mrs. J.L. SMATHERS and children returned home last Tuesday from an extended visit to relatives in Swain and Haywood counties.

JONES, Tilpha – (d. 1884)

Excerpted from the “Hyde County Items” column:

Mr. Tilpha JONES died on the 3d inst., at the residence of G.H. SATTERWHITE, Sr., near Leechville, aged 84 years.  The deceased for many years has been a member of the Church and faithful in the discharge of her duties.

Mrs. Tooley to Soon Retire (1884)

Excerpted from the “Hyde County Items” column:

Mrs. TOOLEYthe keeper of the county alms house for over four years, retires from that place very soon.  She has never been excelled by any of her predecessors and I doubt if every equalled [sic].  Commissioners, public and paupers regret her departure.  She has been faithful to her trust.

NEAL, Daniel – (d. 1884)

Excerpted from the “Hyde County Items” column:

Mr. Daniel NEAL did his usual amount of work on the 29th ult.  At night he complained of a pain in his breast, which continued to grow worse, until he died about 12 o’clock.  The deceased was one of the old man and a consistent member of the Baptist church.

HENDERSON, (Mrs.) – (d. 1884)

TANKARD, Wm. M. – (d. 1884)

Mr. Wm. M. TANKARD died at his residence in this town, on Sunday afternoon last, after a protracted illness of about six weeks.  Mr. TANKARD was a very popular young man, active in business, a good citizen and a very kind husband and indulgent father.  He was a member of the Legions of Honor and the Knights and Ladies of Honor, both of which organizations attended his funeral in a body.
